I read something James Bach wrote in one of the threads about how Richard asked him to eat only chicken or fish, but no other meat. If you happen to log back on, James, would you mind passing on Richard's reasoning? I ask because I have been eating only fish for a decade and am considering introducing chicken into my diet (because I am seriously lacking in protein). I can't bring myself to eat any other form of meat and am torturing myself with guilt as I consider eating chicken. I suppose I am hoping you can tell me something that will justify my chicken-eating quest! Or at least give me food for thought (no pun intended). ie why is red meat bad but chicken ok? Before you ask, I don't know how I have justified my fish eating, I suppose it was just a matter of necessity for health (I was 100% vego for a number of years but became unwell). Thank you!

"Lean" red meat is good for you! Low grade meat is packed with Bad fats...Man, chicken is excellent for your health, packed with protein your body needs. As long as Meat is lean and cooked well, and eaten in moderation, it will only benefit your health...Do you exercise? ..There is a reason for that question.

Hi,
I think you sould take it easy.
Chickens can fly, while animals cannot. Eating chickens would encourage you to fly ;D

I want to fly, bring on the chicken! Mind you, I've never really seen a chicken flying through the air...
I've been pretty hung up on the bad karma aspect of eating animals and need to hear a few arguments to the contrary so i can start feeding my poor body!
In answer to Fallon, yes I do exercise - mostly into yoga and pilates at the moment, though have previously been a regular visitor to the gym and hope to get back into that asap. I definitely don't need to lose weight (i'm about 55kg and 5"10) but could do with building muscle strength. Don't think I could bring myself to chew on a cow... is there anything in red meat I can't get from chicken (iron I suppose?)? Do you think it's wrong to eat animals? ie not good for someone trying to spiritually evolve?

Do you think it's wrong to eat animals? i.e not good for someone trying to spiritually evolve? 1) We are free to do what ever we want to do 2) Eating Chicken should not any day delay your spiritual learning by a minute It could be bad to see a chicken specially being cut for you, but the ones that are already dead, are free to enter your body. May be its just body feeding on body, we souls have nothing to do with it. Grave(Did the chicken cross the road?)

I'd advise you to be more careful with chicken too! Some are raised and grown in 48 hours with hormones, have got 3 heads, and walk on 5 legs until they are killed and made into nuggets for McDonald's or KFC. Parappa pa paa! I'm Lovin' It. ;D
I really liked what my friend Arica told me the other day in reply to my question, why doesn't she eat meat at all? She said,
"Edina, I don't eat anything that had a face once."

Pip, Eating animals is Human. We "ARE" omnivores. It is nothing out of the ordinary. It has no effect on your spirit!!! No If your torturing the chicken before you eat it, then I'd worry about how it could effect your soul.....A basic rule of thumb for me,when it comes to health, which may work for you....What would you do If you were in nature with no technology?....Your answers are rooted in that simple question.

Thanks guys, these are great thoughts (Grave, you are hilarious). If I do start eating chicken I will make sure it's organic, I am only too aware about the way these animals are pumped full of hormones/antibiotics.
Aboriginal tribes (I am Australian) kill animals for food in the Australian outback, but they speak to the animal's spirit first and thank the animal for its goodness, which I think is really lovely and respectful.
Falion - I like your idea about how we would live without technology. You're right, we wouldn't survive long on berries and coconut! I suppose if I am going to spiritually evolve, it would be best to be as healthy as possible in the process. Even the Dalai Lama eats meat occasionally.
And rest assured Edina, I will not be stepping foot in McDonald's!!! ;D Thanks everyone. xxx

Pip, hello.....listen I'm going to give you a title of a book and an author that you should read. It will answer all that you have to ask conserning (sp?) eating meat or not. It is called "Diet by Blood Type" and the author is Dr. Peter J. D'Adamo. Some people, type A blood types, are natural vegans, where as people with type O blood types require animal protein in order for their bodies to function properly. I think you'll find it interesting information. I operate a Health Food/natural/organic foods store so have some knowledge in this area. ;D If you do eat meats, you should search for ORGANIC meats. Not just NATURAEL. There is a difference. Organically raised animals are healthy and do not have the growth hormones and antibiotics that un-organic raised animals have in them. Naturael raised animals are raised on grass and grains and have no growth steriods, however they are given antibiotics and other un-organic medicines......all organic raised animals are not. Your body will tell you what it needs to survive and prosper. Just listen to it! Pay attention to what you eat and drink and the "effects" it has on your system. How do you feel after eating this or that? Does your moods change? Do you feel like C*&%^P after eating this or that? Listen to your body, it will speak to you. Start with that book. You'll learn what you need to know.

Great minds think alike JT! I was actually going to mention that book in my last post - my naturopath told me to read it too. I have O negative blood type - the worst possible type for a vegetarian. Unfortunately most of my favourite foods (mushrooms, lentils etc) are actually foods I should be avoiding if I follow the blood type diet. Aghhh! Thanks for the advice on organic meats, I'll definitely be careful about that. Plus I have a two year old daughter and if I am going to introduce meat into her diet I want to make sure it's top quality.

Hiya Pip.......O negative! Yup, you should defiently eat some red meat. Now that can be buffalo or elk meat as well. You should try buffalo or even ostrich. Ostrich is red meat, very low in fat and cholesterol and high in protein. Same for buffalo. I myself have many food allergies. One is beef. However, I can eat buffalo and feel real good on it. I do eat very little as I am an A pos. blood type. Total vegan. But I'm highly allergic to soy! As allot of american peoples are. Have you heard of kineseology?? Muscle testing, in layman's terms. It's a resistance test that allows your body to tell you specifically what it needs or what is bad for it. Ask your naturepath about that. As to your lentils, that you profess to love, when you quit eating the foods that are on your "bad" for you list, the foods that you think (and you really do!) you like, you will be surprised at how your tastes change. Give it 30 days with "0" none zilch nada...of the foods that are on your bad list and that you think you like. Then reintroduce them. Just in very small amounts, and be very honest with yourself on the flavor and how they affect your body.

I'd like to share some thoughts about this subject, too.
I haven't eaten meat for about 10 years now. I eat fish if I'm offered it (some people find it hard to cook vegetarian, and in some restaurants you just can't find a vegetarian option). I would rather eat any other kind of meat than chicken. Here in the European Union chickens are threated horribly, and from what I have experienced, the least humanely. Sure, chicken meat is healthier than red meat, and a lot of people have realized it recently. Which makes me feel even more sorry for the chickens out there, since the growing request for chicken meat most likely won't increase the quality of their short lives.
I do not judge anyone who chooses to eat meat. They make their choices as I make mine. I don't impose my choices on anyone and I expect people to treat me so, too.
About the blood group diets: As a scientist it's very hard for me to believe that what kind of proteins you have on the surface on your red blood cells would actually have an impact on your digestion, since no food comes in contact with blood until it's spliced to the smallest nutritional particles. I'd love to hear some more information about the subject, JTwolf. I don't wish to provoke, just hear the facts behind the diet.

Hello Bluebird, I myself am no scientist, or that matter, a phlibotomist (sp?) What I have learned has been after reading the book by Dr. Peter J. D'Adamo, Diet by blood type. He is a doctor and scientist. These are new findings. I would suggest reading the book if you care to know. You never know, you might get yourself a new wrinkle! The other thing that makes it true for me is practise. After reading the book, allot of things made sense about how I felt after eating certain foods. So I did a personal study. I omitted the foods that were on the "bad" list and added the foods on the "good" list. After 30 days on that diet, I started adding foods on the bad list. You would not believe the difference in how I felt! When I omitted the bad foods and ate only the good, I had more energy, better digestion, slept better, less pains in my body e.t.c.... the list goes on. Then when I started adding back in the bad foods. The bad digestion came back, the bloatedness, the pains in my joints, e.t.c.....that to me, non-scientist that I am, is a definitive test and analysis. I felt good on what the Dr. told me was good for my blood type, and I felt bad eating the foods that were bad for my blood type. simple. The analogy I like to use is this: Take engines. They all run and need oil to run. The oil is a lubricant. It shouldn't matter what kind of oil is used in a motor as they are all basically the same. But different TYPES of oil are used in different motors. Some need 30 weight oil some need 10w/40 some need 10w/30 some need 40 weight e.t.c.....same engines, different nutritional requirments. Maybe a bad analogy, but I do know that every one of our bodies are basically the same. Exactly the same. Organs, blood, filteration process, digestion process e.t..c... However, I also know that every one of our bodies are very different as well. What mary eats and feels good on, I may not be able to. I know for a fact that I cannot eat soy products and feel good. Some people can eat soy products and thrive, if I eat them, I get sick. Read the book, it's not very big, and you might be very surprised that ones blood type might affect how ones digestion process works. I was.

I'm definitely going to give this a shot. My naturopath gave me the list of good/negative foods for my type weeks ago but it all looked too overwhelming - it's going to mean a complete diet over haul, especially going from vegetarian to consuming meat (organic of course). But you've inspired me JT, I'll let you know how it goes! We don't get buffalo or ostrich over here in Australia but i'll start with organic chicken and fish and see how that feels.
I too feel sorry for the chickens - and the cows for that matter - but if they have lived happy, relaxed lives, it doesn't seem quite so heinous. In Australia we have some fabulous organic, macrobiotic chicken and cattle farms, it's pretty easy to find healthy meat over here.
