Anxiety at your door, Ray? ....then invite it in! Talk to it, listen to it. Is it real...or is it but an illusion that you allowed into your mind?
When I am anxious/ unsettled, usually it means some issue needs attention and until I talk to it...well, anxiety has been known to be persistent.
I tend to not socialize long with anxiety anymore, rare is there anything I can do at the moment if it does visit except to let it know I know an issue may exist. When and if the need to deal with whatever it may be, at That time I will invest energy towards the supposed problem. ...I say supposed because 99% of anxiety for me is about something I truly have no control over. No matter how long I allow anxiety to visit, nothing I can do is going to really change the reason I feel unsettled...EXCEPT myself.
"Perspective, use it or lose it!"(smile), pretty simple, the attitude IS the solution.... Today I am able to create contentment now inside chaos, serenity inside the moment surrounded by a storm....how? ....practice...living for the very moment I am alive, not a minute before, inside a day that is tomorrow, nor a second that is lost inside yesterday or the past... but Now. "Here" is where we all truly live.
This is of course just for myself, I have no idea how others may handle this. But I can say, I now have learned to live precisely "here" , this moment Is now...yesterday can be a lesson learned or a day just done. Tomorrow, sure, plans can be made, better made though without imbedding expectations, minimizes disappointments and assumptions, and when that day does arrive, deal with it as today...in the moment.
I realized that when the time comes, and this IS true for everybody, few things are, but when the last breathe is taken, all any of us will truly think about is the moment....I prefer to be as aware today now as I am sure I will be then, in that moment. How?....just like we become proficient at anything we do...practice consciously each day. (smile)
So enjoy anxiety and look at it as an opportunity to change how you , yourself, deals with it. Change can be challenging...definitely not boring! ...and try to find time to smile, a smile in the dark can light up any heart! (smile)
No one told me living was easy...but it can be fun!

If by anxiety you mean stress - then the way I deal with it is to exercise by walking, bike riding, punching a bag or other sports that allow the physical release of energy - Ti Chi is also an excellent way to release stress. Then after a workout a good book is great!

"[snip]...then invite it in! Talk to it, listen to it. Is it real...or is it but an illusion that you allowed into your mind?" M.E. Krewson, have you hit the nail on the head, or what? What a great post!! I agree with you wholeheartedly. I usually find that most of my anxiety is self-induced, thoughts about my limitations, be it about the work I'm doing, meeting new people in a different setting, or worrying about the unknown. Can I do that? Will I make it? Omigod, am I going to embarass myself, or worse yet... (gasp) fail? "Argue for your limitiations, and sure enough, they're yours." (RB, Illusions) If you can embrace your limitations, acknowledge where they came from, and deal with the "cause", I think you'll find the amount of your anxiety will diminish greatly. Mine have... thanks to a friend who introduced me to RB's writings. <br> Rokclmr PS: Usually, I find I deal best with the physical aspect of my anxiety by riding down a trail on my mtn. bike.
