"Are we the only ones in the universe? " To believe that we are the only ones in the universe would probably be the most egocentric belief of all time. That there would be so many other galaxies, each made up with hunks of rock and ice and dirt circling massive gaseous balls of fire, and our dirtball would be the only one with any type of life? hahaha. That's funny. And, think about this... E.T. doesn't have to look/act/think/breathe like us to be intelligent, either. Just like there are many different ways of being here on Earth, so might there be on other worlds. So, hey... I'm willing to believe there's other life out in the "Great Beyond". I may never see it in my lifetime, but, I may never see the Amazon River, either. That doesn't mean the river doesn't exist. IMHO, Rokclmr

I am the only one in my universe ;D
Somewhere in a vastness that a human mind cannot even grasp, I am certain that life flourishes as thoroughly as it does on this little ball of mud.

rokclmr, you are absolutely right!
We simply cannot be the only ones in the universe. It would contradict the most basic of the divine logic and balance with which all that surrounds us has been created.

Hey, guys, none of you know the answer to this question. Give it up. It is just as egocentric to assume that other life exists, without any true facts. So unless you are a scientist at NASA, don't worry about it.

I guess the kind of life forms to observe depends on the illusion/movie/personal world you create and choose to experience Everything is possible after all

I read once that "if it can be imagined, it already exists." It's an interesting idea. I think it's probably true to a point. In the 1950's, science fiction writers were arrested and interrogated for writing stories which involved top secret technologies that the government was in the process of developing. The government was able to prove that there was no possible way for these writers to find out about these technologies, and that the writers had in fact, just come up with these concepts on their own. I think there is other life out there. If there weren't, we wouldn't wonder about it.

Elisse, I would like to say...Scientists are possibly the least likely of all people to believe in life on other plants. I could from a very scienc-y background, and what I have seen so far, is that scientists are incredibly closed minded. Not all of them, but it is a common trait. They refuse to believe in any they can't explain or comprehend. they say, no, their can't be life on other plants, becasue the chance of finding another planet with conditions simelar to this one is close to zero. Well! It boggles my mind. why the hell couldn't you have very intellignt life living in completley different conditions, different gases to breathe (if they do breathe) something instead of water - anything! I just can't believe the amount people limit themselves. I've heard linguists say that there's no way dolphins can have a language as expressive or somplicated as ours, becasue they don't have a big enough range of sounds. !!! Well, who's to say they have many differnt sounds that we can't differentiate between, even with our fancy "intelligent" equipment? The arrogance of some humans never fails to amaze me.

I have to say I've got a completely different impression! I'm a scientist myself and as much as I know of the scientific atmosphere here in Finland, people do tend to keep their minds open for life on other planets. Very many astronomers / physicists are of the opinion that the probability is quite large if you take into account the vastness of the universe. A new trend in science is astrobiology, which investigates exoplanets in general, existing biological phenomena as well as as possibilities of those.
The only question is, what form of life, what level of intelligence and does it exist simultaneously to us.

If only I could... my boyfriend has the whole series on tape and he's still watching old episodes every now and then. Today I read another article about scientists thinking there's a good chance that we're "not alone". The only thing is, will we recognize an intelligent life-form very different from ours?

We cannot be the only ones. We are plenty of souls and boredome seltles in too fast in our learning life. There must be other ways to reach out to know is (like some planet might have Cake God that your girlfirend could bake any sunday ) Any how, Aliens exist in reality, they are illusion as much as we are. The profile of I won't change overall. b) Now, the whole universe is so big because "I" or "Is" could afford it.. he didn't get this on rent I guess. ---------------x-------------x------------------------ Regardless of above, sometimes we try to ask questions that no one can perfectly answer, this inside our mind boosts our ego for learning and growth. So we maintain our illusion that says "I am learning" .. I guess all of us know precise answers to what you just ask, but sometimes we just don't know the format to present the answer. The answers are already here and known.. to us by us(Is) Grave (happy learning)
