"Through the hardest days of my life has always stayed that quite watching assurance: There's a reason you chose what's happening around you. Hang on, Richard, live your way through it the best you know, and in a bit you'll find out why. Who dares say such a thing, who dares remind us but our own inner teachers, unruffled by what seems to be?" Welcome to the forum!

Grave: "finally, So what do you think the book is all about?"Ask a dozen RB fans & you may receive a dozen different answers. My interpretation is much as with the creatures whose way of life was clinging to the river bottom in " Illusions": [glow=teal,2,300]Let go of that which you think you know &, with an open heart, trust in the unseen.[/glow] With respect, ~Dwayne~

As long as We're Running from Safety....I have a question I haven't searched yet...so you can admonish me if there is an old thread....
The movie, THE KID, with Bruce Willis....did it not seem to anyone else to be based on this book....I looked for credits and saw none...but the theme and the bi plane...
I saw it, with my now ex-husband, during the time after he told me he wanted to life alone, and while he was still in my house.....I don't think I have ever laughed so hard. And Running From Safety is one of my many favourite Richard Bach books.

When you are new to a board, it takes so very long to find threads started ages ago by those with like minds....
I did find the Disney's, The Kid thread today....Thank you all of you who did all that chatting in 2004....it helped me to know I am not crazy to have even thought it.
No answers from Audrey Wells, but I doubt that she would be able to say with impunity that she was influenced by Richard's work, even if it were true. Disney would have a fit.

I wonder why hasn't anyone brought up the Wachowski brothers, like The Matrix trilogy wasn't inspired by Richard's philosophy...same thing.

I wonder why hasn't anyone brought up the Wachowski brothers, like The Matrix trilogy wasn't inspired by Richard's philosophy...same thing. That I don't see... What about a group of machines feeding off humans as a power source comes from one of Richard's books? And which one, in your opinion? Or keeping them alive with a mental picture of Euphoria being bad for them....and them having to struggle with existence to keep them healthy...or that humans are a "virus" that infects the earth... Or that the Oracle is a computer program...or ....?

Well, if you watch it again the parts with the Oracle, Architect and the Merovingian are all obviously based on RB's philosophy. Just substitute the word 'programs' with 'people' and 'matrix' with 'life', and you'll see what I mean.

Richard's philosopies are not unique to him....although he wrote about them in a unique way.
SERIOUS SPOILERS HERE FOR ANYONE WHO HAS NOT READ RUNNING FROM SAFETY OR SEEN THE KID!!!
Where The Kid used images and scenarios that were straight parallels to Running from Safety...meeting a younger version of yourself....forgetting what you had promised yourself to be like when you grew up...the biplane....the being too serious. he Matrix was about philosophical concepts borrowed from many sources and written into a screenplay that didn't borrow imagery from any one source...IMO anyway.

You're right about that! I should have been more precise and used the word, "borrow" instead of "based". As it wasn't only Bach whom they "borrowed" from.
