Alrightythen ... here we go, composing the question for
Richard.
This will take some effort & work before segwaying to my question ...
On the "Richard Bach - a fan site" website
www.inner-growth.info/main_bach.htm there is
a link which goes to "RichardBach.com Russian Mirror"
richardbach.euro.ru/ & on the left margin,
5 choices down, is a link to the "RB Shop". There one may purchase a 20" x 30" autographed print of
Richard's Piper Cub sitting in a Washington State field, complete with
"written a word or two in pen" for his asking price of $175. No problem.
The next offering is a traditional flying scarf, white silk & autographed, etc., which will have been flown
by Richard himself, tied to his plane ...
(unless the scarf one receives has been flown on Rod Magner's
TravelAir biplane instead) & will not reach us
"until it has flown over the fields and farms of the
countryside" (Richard's words). $192.30 USD. He says up front that the scarf comes
"with a bit
of strange added" &, indeed, the marketing writing with this scarf strikes me as being strange.
So a white silk scarf is being offered
which may or may not even be flown by Richard & is being
marketed as a romantic item, be one a flyer or no, having "sponged-up some mysterious essence"
while tied & flown about by
someone's plane.
After being on hanblecia ("hah-b-LAY-chee-ah" ... a "vision quest" Lakota-style) there were color
flags to mark one's boundaries during the "crying for a vision" as it is known. No food, no water,
much listening ... for days out in the elements & humanly alone. These "prayer flags" all have tobacco
offerings tied within the tops & the flags were streched out fully in near gale-force winds at times.
Were anyone to sell these flags of theirs afterwards then it would essentially be an abhorrent thing,
& while this artist can differentiate between the flags & the scarfs, nevertheless something seems sad
about this whole "deal" ... & perhaps it is my perspective which is sad.
So my question to Richard is as follows:
Have you thought your offering of flying scarfs through,
as they are presently being marketed on that website?
Am simply not able to get my head around such mixtures of spiritual & material. Any light that
Richard may be willing to share on this perplexing
(to me)merchandise offering will be valued greatly.
Thanks so much for considering this question, all.
