Thank you for the synopsis.
The stories are pretty similar, except that Richard's self as a child was very angry at Richard and was insisting that he look into why - and to accept responsibility for what he had done to himself. When his brother died, he sort of died inside because of guilt feelings and sadness at the loss of his brother, whom he loved.
I still am curious about the Red Biplane and why the screenwriter used that, just coincidence or other reasoning.
