Hi Folks, I just found this site and have been enjoying the posts and replies.
I have a question. I have tried to find the answer all over the net (in my limited ability) but cannot find it.
Is it just me, or does anybody else see Richard Bach all over the movie The Kid? Surely Running From Safety is the inspiration for the movie.
I've read through the credits a dozen times trying to find some referrence to RB, but have not seen any yet.
Any thoughts?

Ditto here! You'll see a thread earlier on this board as well about this! "The Kid" is oozing Bach from every pore ;D and I have tried to find answers myself (to no avail) ... from the parallel lives to the red biplane, there can be NO question this is a Bach-inspired film ....
Just wonder why there's no evidence of that anywhere. If the screenwriter was/is a fan, why hide it? Is there more to this story ... ?

Hi all. I haven't seen the movie and don't think I've even heard of it - who's in it? But = the KID is what the entire book is about for Richards search into his innerself being so angry. I'm going to have to go to amazon.com and see if I can find out about the movie and see it. Sounds very interesting and I'll be very interested to see it now.

Bruce Willis stars ... he encounters his childhood self and helps him find his way "home" ... it was a Disney production (go figure) definitely a must-see for anyone here on this board and fans of Running From Safety. There can be no coincidence here, but for some reason there seems to be no evidence of such.

Hi "a huge fan"
Regarding this movie, I went to the Disney site, where I'm registered and sent them an e-mail question about the movie, explaining what you are all thinking, because of the similarities of the subject matter. As soon as I hear (if I do, I will copy and paste the answer here for you to read. I am very intrigued with this movie now.

Hello to all~ You had me very intrigued with the possiblity of this movie being based on Richards life, so I got an address for Disney and mailed a letter to their archives in Burbank, CA. This is the e-mail I received just last night.
Dear Ms. Pike:
In reply to your letter, Disney's The Kid was based on an original screenplay written by Audrey Wells, not on anything by Richard Bach.

I expected as much ... (thanks so much for doing that, btw) ;D
I guess the person we need to speak to is the screenwriter, eh? Perhaps she's a fan and was inspired by RB ... I just wanted validation that I'm not crazy ... and frankly, I have that here now with all of you who saw it too.
Next step ... try to contact Ms. Audrey Wells ;D

How funny - I thought the same thing, she could be a fan of Richards. Yes, I'll see what I can do to locate a site or address for her. I might see if I can find the address for the Disney Archives again (not sure where it went) and either write her % Disney, or hopefully, find a site FOR her. Hang in there - either way, the connection is tremendous, and maybe because all spiritually reaches from the Etheric plane, she could have absorbed the energy and acquired her inspiration for the story. Hi E... I haven't seen it, but I've read about it. I'ts the same premise as Running From Safety and it sounds wonderful. Bruce Willis is good at this sort of thing. I am in the process of getting it. I did a search on the screenwriter, Audrey Wells. She has done quite a few things and did the screens for both Under The Tuscan Sun and Raising Helen - two GREAT movies. I finally found a site about her and though it didn't have a "contact me" button, had a FAQ one, so I wrote a question, addressed to her for a way to contact her with a question about the screenplay she wrote for Disneys The Kid. She was born and raised in San Franciso, CA. Richard Bach was raised in Long Beach, CA (I've been to places he mentioned in Running and stood where I THINK he might have stood). He worked at The Boeing Company on Wardlow in Long Beach and it's where he lost his brother and began his journey to writing Running From Safety. A LOT of people in California have similar thoughts on spirituality, so it could just be a coincidental connect, or she could have read some of his work and not even realized an idea had been planted in her subconscious. When I first read Jonathan, I believed a lot of what Richard conveys and believes, but I thought I was the only one and a very odd nut - UNTIL I found him. The things I always believed and thought, from childhood were right on and I am, NOT (of course) the only who who believes these things. I'm OK! We'll see if I get an answer as to how to contact her, or maybe just the answer to my question, "was your writing The Kid influenced at all by Richard Bach's beliefs"? Bonnie "jonathanfan"

bonnie ... you are awesome!!! Thanks for all your hunting ;D
You are right, that many share similar thoughts/beliefs on spirituality, parallel lives, etc. and I probably would leave it at that if not for the red biplane featured so prominently in the ad ... and in the film, as well. That just went that one extra step ... you know?
Thanks! Maybe we will finally get to the bottom of this mystery :-D

Thank you - like to be of help, whenever I can. You are right, my curiosity is jumping on pins and needles, because of that Red Biplane, and I can't help thinking/wondering about the almost obvious connection between the two peoples lives (Richard and Audrey). And maybe it IS as simple as she know someone else really into planes and flying, but the nagging question is just still embedded into my mind and if at all possible, I NEED to know so we can all set our minds back on even throttle. Take care Bonnie "jonathanfan"

Synopsis
If you had a chance to meet yourself as an 8-year-old child, would that kid be happy with who you turned out to be? In Russ Duritz's case, the answer is a resounding "NO!"
In Walt Disney Pictures' live action comedy, "Disney's The Kid," BRUCE WILLIS stars as Russ Duritz, a successful image consultant whose life is suddenly turned upside down when he magically meets Rusty (SPENCER BRESLIN), Russ himself as an 8-year-old kid. Rusty is a sweet, but slightly geeky, awkward little kid who painfully reminds Russ of everything he hated about himself when he was a child-a pudgy, little cry-baby who was the daily victim of the school bullies-an image Russ has worked hard to overcome and consciously forget.
Ironically, the kid is also unhappy with who his 40-year-old self has turned out to be. He is not at all impressed by his attractive physique, wealth, or seemingly important accomplishments. He can't understand the concept of Russ' job as an image consultant, or why he has forgotten about their dreams of becoming a pilot. All he knows is that he grows up to be a 40-year-old loser-an adult without a wife or even a dog!
