Yessire Bob! I got authorization to post 1 post!
Thanks webmaster!, MissE.
Over the last few years it has become apparent to me that there is a major paradigm shift that has/is occurred/occurring.
I would like to pose one question here, and hopefully, you will be able to take a look at it, offer your input, and help me/us better understand the nature of interpersonal relationships, that would be if you will.
DO INDIVIDUALS NATURALLY ATTRACT LIKE MINDED RELATIONSHIPS?
As I observe the natural world of life in physical matter upon this planet, I note that "birds of a feather" stick together". I note flocks of birds turning on a dime in unison. I also note like fish twirling as one, the glint of sunlight reflecting off their scales. The sound of pounding hooves and smell of dust as buffalo run as one 'cross the prairie in years gone by. I look at humanity, and also see it as one flock, confused maybe, running in so many directions, but still one flock. So in this regard, in my observation, it is true that "birds of a feather" stick together, no?
However, within each of these "flocks" is there not the opposites attracting? Male birds drawn to female birds, male fish drawn to female fish ::)for the purpose of pro-creation? In human beings, it is male drawing female aspects for the purpose of pro-creation, no?
Or the dominant male aspect of a female drawing the dominate female aspect of a female, and the same with males.
So I see within the whole of any flock, that in fact opposites attract.
So is it true that in our interpersonal relationships that we attract that which we are, the sameness in each other, as a "new sort of flock?", or in fact are we more balanced, and harmonious when we attract our opposite?
In interpersonal relationships, for so long I have been told that difficulties arise as a result of my seeing myself in others, and that it is I who needs to change my behaviour to make peace in my relationships. It seems that all my life I have tried to accomodate others, adjusting my attitudes, my behaviour, in the hopes that peace and harmony would prevail. Alas, this effort was to no avail.
Passages from the Urantia Book flooded me mind today, and I would like to share a couple with you, if I may.
1. Is courage-strength of character-desirable? Then must man be reared in an environment which necesitates grappling with hardships and reacting to disappointments.
2. Is altruism-service of one's fellows-desirable? Then must life experience provide for encountering situations of social inequality.
3. Is hope-grandeur of trust-desirable? Then human existence must constantly be confronted with insecurities and recurrent uncertainties.
4. Is faith-the supreme assertin of human thought-desirable? Then must the mind of man find itself in that troublesome predicament where it ever knows less than it can believe.
5. Is the love of truth and the willingness to go wherever it leads, desirable? Then must man grow up in a world where error is present and falsehood always possible.
6. Is idealism-the approaching concept of the divine-desirable? Then must man struggle in an environment of relative goodness and beauty, surroundings stimulative of the irrepressible reach for better things.
7. Is loyalty-devotion to highest duty-desirable? Then must man carry on amid the possibilities of betrayal and desertion. The valor of devotion to duty consists in the implied danger of default.
8. Is unselfishness-the spirit of self-forgetfulness-desirable? Then must mortal man live face to face with the incessant clamoring of an inescapable
self for recognition and honor. Man could not dynamically choose the divine life it there were no self-life to forsake. Man could never lay saving hold on righteousness if there were no potential evil to exalt and differentiate the good by contrast.
9. Is pleasure-the satisfaction of happiness-desirable? Then must man live in a world where the alternative of pain and the likelihood of suffering are ever-present experiential possibilities.
-Urantia Book pg 52
So, if I come forth to you in love, and you reflect back to me dislike, is it because in me there is a dislikable quality?
Or is it, that I am a mirror in which you see yourself, and if you don't like what you see, you respond with dislike, and the dislike is you, not me?
Whatever the reason for our actions/reactions, on some level the above 9 principals most likely apply, no?
I am sure there are other possibilities that exist, and this is why I am asking for your input.
Should there be response, I shall need to wait and respond when again it is ok, to do so.
Thanks,
Lizanne
