:-*I'm so excited. This is my first new thread. But anyway...
The first time I was introduced to RB was when I was at a date's house. I was just waiting on the bed when I opened one of his books. On the first few pages I saw a quote by E. E. Cummings. My date took the book from my hands and told me that if I was going to read RB, I should start with Illusions. I don't remember the name of the book with that quote and I've been buying every RB book I can find. Does anyone know which one it is?
Also, I was wondering if RB has given any indication as to who his mentors were? What does he like to read? And does he write poetry as well?

I have another print version of the Bridge, then, because I don't have that beautiful quote in my book!

It would be wrong for me to assume whom he thinks of as his "mentor", I only know in the past he said he likes to read from authors such as Nevil Shute, Ray Bradbury and Antoine de Saint-Exupéry.

That is beautiful. I haven't read that one yet. Damn, I thought I had them all. But that's not on my book shelves. Okay, I guess I have to hit the Borders site this weekend. Do you guys ever read any of those people and cummings?
---and if any of you need recommendations, opinions, or anything having to do with cummings, let me know. I'm practically an authority.

I think his direct mentor as such was his writing teacher in high school that he talks about in Bridge. He alludes to him in other books, too. Crying scene in Bridge.
