My favorite Richard Bach book is STRANGER TO THE GROUND. I felt that I was seeing the author without the refinements of Donald Shimoda, or Leslie, or any other metaphor for metaphysics. It allows us (the readers) to see the paradox between love of high performance aircraft and the personal prices Richard Bach pays (and if his book ONE is any indication, still pays) for those high lonely flights and passes on gunnery targets. Richard Bach's description of his take-off from England to his base reminded me a little of McGee's HIGH FLIGHT. It is poetry. I wonder if Richard Bach's story "THINK BLACK" was a chapter dropped from STRANGER TO THE GROUND.

Illusions definately changed my life. I believe my life was changed before Donald Shimoda was even introduced into the story. The part the changed me was the story of the creatures clinging to the bottom of the river, I felt very much akin to these creatures. I am now in the process of letting go and rising above it all. At this point I am still being dragged and beaten across the rocky bottom but I know this is the first step into my personal and spiritual evolution. I would also like to thank "The Celestine Prophecy" which taught me about the interaction between people and energy and also is helped me decide on South America as my spiritual quest.

"Bridge across forever" and "Illusions". They just open your eyes to new possibilities and they make me laugh a little too.

Illusions, without doubt.
It made me realize that all I believed in was right and that I was not a lone stranger muttering in the street. I realised i had Bach for company... And now I realize I have all of u...
Thnx. Me.

I knew it was wrong when they spoke of a GOD who sat high up there , apart from all that he had created. I believed that GOD was what is... that the creation is not seperate from the creator. I knew it was wrong when they said that you had to be responsible to GOD and justify your actions, come Judgement Day. I believed that you had to be answerable to no one but yourself, and that your actions are mere actions and that there was never a need to justify or atone for them. I knew it was wrong when they said that God gave you troubles so that you may look forward to his blessings.I believed that u have free will and all that happens is but a result of exercising the free will. I knew it was wrong when they said He was my Father, because I believed that I was not seperate from HIM.
And Illusions showed me... I was right.

All you people out there who voted for Illusions! With respect! Have you read A Gift of Wings, or Stranger, or Biplane, or Nothing By Chance! These books were when Mr B was at the height of his powers! Writing about what he knew - flying - with just about the right level of musings about the human condition, before he descended into the twaddle, pomposity and self importance of the 'philosophical' books - no offence to Mr B or readers!

"One" ... though the book was just about to begin wehn it ended. The message was clear. For all his books it is one book.

Biplane -- because I love to live...
Illusions -- because I live to love.

Illusions and A Gift of Wings. Then a copy of Bridge came to me by fate. Not sought, not thought of but it was by Bach. After some years, some growth and some healing, all prep for what came to pass summer 01. Again an "accident" introduced one so fine to my spirit. NOW is the thing. It is a note of sadness that Richard and Leslie are parted but how can I judge anyone? I do still know that love and the eternal power of NOW is real. I can't fly airplanes any more for medical reasons, but I can fly radio control creations and more important, I am not alone or wrong in my world view as I have a magnificient companion that is more than I ever imagined two could be. Still Illusions and Gift of Wings are my favorites as flight is an incredible communication link with self and the Creator. Oh I forgot to mention my partner too had read Bridge at approx the same time I did, a decade and more before we met. Our friendship is across time and the choice to be together in this NOW. Absolutely best to all RC flier

definitely "running from safety". that book is so reflective it takes me to same exact place he was taken to. all of his books are amazing, but i gotta say that when he wrote this book, it seems like he actually lefta part of his soul in the manuscript. that's just my opinion though.
