My favorite Richard Bach book is "Illusions," followed by "A Gift Of Wings." The former because it is just very much alive for me each time I read it -- the sights, sounds and ideas feel as if they're actually happening. I first read "Illusions" some 21 years ago, and I still come back to it once a year.
"Gift Of Wings" is a great collecction of Bach's short stories from his magazine writing days. The stories range from humorous to tragic, and cover Bach's youth. The fun thing in reading these is that you can see the early seeds in his writing of what would become more developed in his later works, thematically-speaking.
Thanks for a great web-site!

Illusions. I actually had a mystical experience reading this book. I had been researching St. Paul, St. John of the Cross and others over the years.
Here's the story. My friend purchased this book. We were relaxing by the pool where I was a member. She mentioned the book to me and started to read the first page.
Just at that moment, I heard said to me, "I'm in the book."
This was a voice I heard in my head. And no, I don't usually hear voices. I went to a Bible college and am "born again," so I knew immediately who was speaking.
I looked at her and said, "give me that book!" I told her I would read it later.
Here's the unusual part. I was brought up Baptist, so I only shopped at Bible book stores!! This was not the "typical" book I would ever pick up. Would you believe? I have had quite an education these past 20+ years and my eyes have been opened so to speak.
I read the book. As I got toward the end the hero was shot. I was crushed. Tears ran down my face. After reading these words, suddenly I seemed to pass through this door. I knew it was real because I felt myself on the "other side" although I did not see anything. I just knew it happened.
The Lord said to me, "there is no death, I conquered it on the cross." Something changed inside of me but I have not found out what that is yet.
What an experience!
Anyone else have anything unusual happen to them?

Illusions. It, itself, is a magic book. Just pick it up, open it to any page and it will surely tell you something about your self. Ask a question, open it and it will answer it. LL

Definitely Illusions and One. Both of these books are on my list of #1 Richard Bach book. I was truly connected with my soulmate when he introduced me to Illusions.I absolutely loved it cos it opened me up to a world that i knew always existed abt never truly knew where to look. WOW!!! One is really something that could rock your religious foundations concerning particular issues like alternate lives. I can defintely say that Richard Bach's Illusions was an influential part in bringing me together with the one person i was born to love. And for that I'm truly indebted to Richard Bach for all and more! So I figured I would let as many people as I can let know abt the existance of books written by Richard Bach. My favourite quote is "You are never given a wish, without being given the power to make it come true"I hope I got that quote right-If I didn't-then apologies, but I remembered it the best way it makes sense to me. i believed that if more people read Illusions-they would start to not just accepting the world as the see it-but learn to love it!!!!!

I would have to say that for me its a toss up between Johnathan Livingston Seagull and Illusions. However if I had to choose it would probably be JLS, becuase of what it said to me. It was a simple book but in its simplicity had a very strong message. I got the message that we are all able to break free and fly any way we want to, beyond the status quo. As well as to teach others the same possibilities and show them that theres more to life than there seems to be.

Definitely [glow=red,2,300]Illusions[/glow] and [glow=red,2,300]One[/glow]. Illusions, because it shows me how. One, because it shows me why..

Illusions. There is true raw power in this book. An open mind can use that power to bring themselves peace of mind, perspective, freedom... I've re-read this book for 17 years now, and there's more I would like to express about it than what I am capable of writing. I can't drink down every concept, or every word, but the parts that work for me work very well. LL- I've done the same exact thing! Used the book the way RB said- "You can do it with an old newspaper if you read carefully enough." Just hold a question in your head, flip to a random page and read. I wanted to be able to do exactly that but have access to the wisdom in ALL of my favorite RB books. So then I actually bought a journal, and in it I wrote down every maxim I could find from all my favorite RB books, Illusions, JLS, One, Bridge, Running, ect. When I met Richard, he signed my journal for me. I guess that if you want the truth, this JOURNAL is actually my favorite RB book! (Ha!) 8)

The best book written by Bach is "The Bridge Across Forever" - because this is the most human and inside attestation, what I have ever read. And I am happy that there are people whose can appriciate his work like we do:-)

It would have to be The Bridge Across Forever, followed very closely by JLS, One and Illusions. I love The Bridge...because of it has addressed so many changing stages in a relationship which even the most extraordinary soulmates go through. I have found in it solutions, answers and even questions to my equation with the world, and it has always empowered me with courage and strength to look into and make my own futures.

Illusions, without a doubt.
When I was ten my mother and I would read Illusions to each other before bed. I grew-up in an area of Mormons and conservative christians, and I never felt I belonged. Illusions reminded me that there were others out there that thought like I did. It gave a ten-year-old little girl hope. And when I recieved a wonderful "blue feather" (a stray russian blue cat adopted me one night) I tried to name him Shimoda. Unfortunately, he didn't care for the name so we tried Gryphon (from the wonderful picture book Griffin & Sabine). He prefers that name. =)
